The journey to design
My design path traces back to my days studying kinesiology at UBC. It was in a sociology of sport class during my third year that I first delved into design. My professor introduced an innovative assignment where we had the option to write either a traditional essay or what she termed an 'un-essay,' encouraging experimentation and creativity. My project centred on the rise of sneaker culture and how sneakers act as a catalyst for social mobility for minorities. I expressed this through a series of vibrant graffiti-style posters, each representing a different decade with symbolic elements. The positive feedback I received from my professor was a turning point, they saw my potential and encouraged me to pursue graphic design. Creating has always had a strong beat in my life, I completed my kinesiology degree and immediately decided to go into graphic design at Emily Carr & BCIT.
